Updates

Hi, sorry I haven't been updating this for the past few days, I've been busy and stressed.

The Covid-19 outbreak is getting pretty bad. Tonight the president announce that he'd be shutting down all flights from Europe for the next 30 days. part of me thinks this is a good move, but it might be too little to late. I think the best move might be to go all out overly precocious and just shut everything down for 2-4 weeks. I think doing something like that would certainly help slow the effects of the outbreak and right now that has the most potential to do good in the future. I see a lot of reactive steps being taken and I think that needs to stop and we need to be proactive and start trying to stop the problem before it gets out of hand.

I've slowly gotten sick over the past few days. Deep down I think I know it's just a common cold, but it's hard for me to settle on that. The first symptom I had was a mild shortness of breath, which I've had for about 3 days now. I've never had shortness of breath pop up as my first cold symptom before so it's pretty unnerving. It's also hard because one of the symptoms of covid-19 is shortness of breath, and because I looked up shortness of breath on the internet and the top result was a pneumothorax, which the doctor also mentioned when I went there today. The likelihood of it being that is already very low, and I don't have any chest pain to support that idea, but the possibility keep nagging at me in the back of my mind.

In school one of my favorite classes is poetry, not because I love poetry, but because the discussions we have in it are really enjoyable and I think I'm learning a lot about other ideas and opinions that I'm not normally exposed to. Some people around me don't enjoy the style of the class, and say that the entire structure of it is just 45 minutes for the teacher to push his political opinions on the students, but I disagree. One of the more common additional arguments these students make against the teacher is that he doesn't listen to their ideas and just shuts down other ideas that contradict his own. Having argued with the teacher about various subjects that many people are emotional about I don't think he's shutting down arguments that don't align with his views, I think he just has trouble with poorly made or poorly supported arguments. He is always much more respectful of students who express their opinion in a clear, respectful manner. A lot of people just aren't used to having their views challenges, and have grown up in a very privileged environments, contradicting how they like to present themselves to others. I think the teacher is doing a good thing by giving students this opportunity to grow and many of them are just throwing it away.

Any struggles you're having will pass. They always do.

Talk to you soon.

Drew
